PERFORMANCES

Learning to perform - both as a soloist and within a group - is an essential part of music education and a life skill in itself. Performance is encouraged from the start, even after only a few weeks of lessons, and our students gain confidence and self-assurance as a result.

As part of a student’s life at London Youth Conservatoire, they will be offered a vast range of performance opportunities.

Performance Opportunities for our Core and Conservatoire Students

  • Open Platforms -  A perfect opportunity to perform a new piece in front of an audience. The school accompanist is available to accompany students every week at these concerts.  Students sign-up for Platform whenever they wish and are required to do so if preparing for an exam. Feedback is given by the Head/Deputy Head of School or other teacher. All students are asked to perform in a Platform concert run by their instrument teacher in the year, even the beginners!

  • Students Showcase - an opportunity for our more advanced students to perform individually and in chamber groups in a more formal concert setting. Also a great opportunity for less experienced students to attend and be inspired by their peers.

  • External Individual Performances - Some of our more senior students have the opportunity to perform solo at events outside the school. These have included festivals, community fairs, outreach concerts in retirement homes and hospitals as well as local concerts.

  • External ensemble concerts - Some of our more senior ensembles and our Chamber Choir perform at events outside the school. These have included festivals, community fairs, retirement homes, hospital and local concerts.

  • School Concerts - usually at Christmas and in the Summer term.  Whole school concerts involving the mass participation of all the choirs, orchestras, and other ensembles.

  • London Youth Conservatoire Awards - The annual London Youth Conservatoire Awards is a competition open to all students studying their instrument with us. The three categories Junior, Intermediate and Advanced allow all students from Grade 2+ to enrol. Following a pre-selection performance, the finalists in each category perform in a formal evening concert in front of a panel of external adjudicators. The Awards are held in Summer/Term 3.
